Pros and cons of EBSCOhost app for iPhone and iPad
EBSCOhost app good for
It is very valuable to have access to EBSCO Host on the iPhone and this first version is already very well done and works perfectly through the parameters of my institution.
But an unscapable feature is missing in the era of cloud computing : the possibility to access and save article directly with MyEBSCO account.
I hope this will be rapidly improved...
Great app!!! Just missing a detailed search function and an integrated citation listing! Two features from a 5 star app!
Ive had no problems with this app. Very user-friendly. Love it!
I love this app for the ease-of-use. That being said, I would prefer to use it on my iPad. The screen is bigger, and it is easier to read the text.
Its nice application, but needs to be updated. "save to" button does not work.
Some bad moments
Cant log in to EBSCOhost, you have to be using Internet from a "valid" IP address eg. a library or a school. This is to say that you cant use a remote access username/password. Please change this.
The sign in process is clunky, I am not sure who exactly will have the patience to go through this, not your typical student or researcher.
Your app instructionshould read:
1. Get the authentication key from your library, by going to your library page, accessing an Ebsco database (which unless it is labeled Ebsco at the host library this instruction is also unhelpful, perhaps provide database name examples)
2. Click on the tiny link at the bottom of the page.
3. Send yourself and email
4. Download the app
5. Use the registration key link from your email
6 - do all this on a tiny smart phone screen
Please build in the registration through your library directly into the app, having to go outside of the app to use the app is clumbsy and poor user interface design. You are asking your users to do too much to access content.
Another problem with this app is how exactly can you download eBooks from the eBook collection? Currently all I see is an option to save, and then all it is saving is a record. (And the only way I can find your eBook collection is to search for a specific title).
Hope you are still doing some kind of development on this app; it needs work.
The interface is clumsy and missing so many search features. Given the power of apps these days, this is a very basic app. Also, the authentication process is anything but user friendly. Its doable but it seems awkward to do so. This would be a very useful app if some more thought was gone into it or support for that matter. Hope improvements come.
It appears to be merely a search interface w/ the ability to save some searches... Cant even link to existing accounts. Sad face...
app does pretty much nothing. if you log in through the website (a big pain on a phone) then the app will work briefly. This is better than just continuing with the website because mmmhmmshmmmcough.
If your school or business subscribes to ebsco you should check this app out.
